Find Your Laptop Drivers Easily!

Many people, especially beginners, struggle in
finding drivers for their laptops. In this article, I will illustrate
two ways to help you find your laptop drivers quickly, and easily.

The
first method we will consider is to visit a company's website, and
attempt to find a 'Drivers' or 'downloads' link. If a similar link is
not immediately apparent, look for a search box. Most laptop companies
have a search box somewhere on the homepage of their website. Type the
model number of your laptop into the search box and click search.
Typically, you will be sent to an overview of the model you have
entered. Look for 'Downloads' or 'Drivers' links. Hopefully, if this
link is available, you can follow it to find the necessary drivers for
your laptop.

For example, say you have a Dell Latitude D600
laptop, for which you wish to locate updated drivers. The first step is
to visit Dell's website. From the first page, click on the 'Drivers and
Downloads' section.

After clicking on the 'Drivers and Downloads'
link, we choose the required model. In our example, it is Latitude.
Then we enter the model number (D600), followed by selecting our
operating system. The Dell website will show a list of available
drivers and software updates for your model. Select the driver you
wish, and click 'Download'. What if you do not know the website of your
laptop's manufacturer? Or, perhaps when visiting the website, you
couldn't find the 'Downloads and Drivers' section? A second method for
locating laptop drivers would be to visit Google (www.google.com), and
entering, "Download (manufacturer) (model name and number) [type]
driver" or "[type] driver for (manufacturer) (model name or number)"
into the query box, substituting your own manufacturer, model name and
number.

For example, if we wished to find the sound card for a
Dell Latitude D600 laptop, we could go to Google. We would enter either
of the following queries:

-"Download Dell Latitude D600 soundcard Drivers"

-"soundcard driver for Dell Latitude D600"

The
driver download page for you laptop should appear near the top of the
results returned by Google. Follow the link to the driver page, and
proceed to download the drivers you need. These two methods should make
it easy to locate the drivers you need for your laptop. Good Luck!

Flash 101 – The Basics

Have you ever been to a web site that asks you to
download Macromedia Flash? Have you ever seen a Flash button on a web
site that had a lot of animation and seemed very hi-tech? If so, you
may have wondered what exactly Flash is. Flash is not a new technology,
but it is still used in many different ways on the Internet today.

Flash
can refer to Macromedia Flash player, and to refer to the program used
to create Flash content. Some may wonder what exactly Flash does. Flash
is a program that is used to create games and movies that can be put on
the Internet. Interactive web sites are also made with Flash. Most web
browsers support Macromedia Flash. Flash supports vectors, raster
graphics, and ActionScript, which is a scripting language. Finally,
Flash can stream audio and video at the same time.

Flash was
first introduced in 1996. At that time, most browsers did not have
Flash capabilities. However, the amount of browsers with Flash
compatibility rose dramatically in a very short amount of time.
Businesses started to pay web designers to design sites utilizing
Flash. Flash is frequently used with web pages to make them more
interactive and even more professional in some cases. Some web pages
have animated flash introductions. Advertisements have also been
created using Flash. Flash files are generally given a .swf file
extension and can appear either within a web page or can be played in
Flash Player.

Many people prefer using Flash to other
technologies when creating web sites. Some people use animated GIFs.
GIF images are really just looped and so they do not take that much
memory. However, many people prefer Flash because the user can control
the animations. GIFs are limited to 256 colors, while Flash can have
millions. Java Applets are other another medium for Flash-like
animations. However, some find the programming language too difficult.
Flash programming is very easy in comparison to other types of
programming, so more inexperienced persons can make interesting
animations with Flash.

Macromedia Flash has to be purchased. Once
commonly heard complaint is that the software is very expensive.
However, there are other programs besides Macromedia’s that can create
flash banners and animations. These are often less expensive and can be
a good alternative for the budget-minded webmaster looking for a cheap
and easy way to create a Flash banner or animation.

Maxine Winters recommends Flash Text Animation Builder to easily create an attractive flash banner.

Add Some Flash to Your Site in a Flash

If you are looking to bring your website to life and
have a site that demands attention, I recommend you look into adding
some Flash to your sit. Flash web design brings
movement to an otherwise dull looking static site. This is especially
important when you are looking to monetize your site using advertising.
Simple flash can draw your web site visitors eyes to your advertisment.

Most
people today already have a flash enable browser. If they don't, when
flash is present, your web visitors can be redirected to Macromedia,
who is the company that provides the plug in to make flash work on your
site. Millions of web sites now use flash to explain products, showcase
services, and entertain your web visitor. The power of flash on your
site can not be underestimated as a very useful feature on your site.

Any
site that would make use of multimedia would benefit from the dynamic
aspects of flash. Not only can you utilize flash for graphics but you
can combine it with audio to really enhance your site. I am sure you
have visited many sites that have incorporated moving animation with
music or sounds. It can be an effective tool when used properly.
Unfortunately many people do not know how to incorporate flash and over
do it or misuse it. Have you ever landed on one of these sites and
clicked away immediately?

Flash has become rather common online
as graphics can now be compressed more, which gives your site more
flexibility in using flash. The most frequent use of flash web design
is in advertising, and especially banners and buttons. This kind of
flash is commonplace and very easy to do. With the onset of video
learning, you can purchase software that will allow you to create flash
on your websites. Most web developers today are capable of bringing
your site to life and adding flash to your web pages. One of the keys
is to not over do it, so use flash sparingly and look into adding flash
to your site in 2007.

Flash Design Adds Website Versatility

You have probably viewed many Flash-based components
while surfing the Internet. Most smooth animations on websites and in
banner ads, short films, and presentations are built in Flash.
Macromedia Flash is a powerful and adaptable software program. It
enables Flash web designers to incorporate sound, movement, and
interactivity that cannot be achieved with standard HTML websites.

Web
designers use Flash to develop a wide array of presentations,
tutorials, and websites. They can create entire websites or simply add
interactive elements to standard HTML websites.

Should you consider Flash for your company’s website? Perhaps. Like everything, Flash has both pros and cons.

The benefits of Flash:

*
Flash can enhance the experience of your target audience. It grabs
attention and can make a stunning and rich presentation to effectively
drive home a marketing message.

* Flash provides almost limitless design options.

*
With Flash you can explain a wide variety of concepts with graphics and
sound via dynamic, engaging tutorials, training courses, introductions,
and film clips.

* Flash can give your site a look that emphasizes state-of-the-art technology and expertise.

*
If you have a portfolio component to your website, Flash can present
samples of your work in an interactive environment that resizes windows
to fit the graphics. Examples of companies that may benefit from Flash
portfolios include architects, interior designers, and photographers.

Things to consider when developing a Flash-based site:

*
Estimates state approximately 95% of Internet users have the Flash
plug-in. This leaves only a small group of people who must still
download the free plug-in.

* Flash is a complex and
time-intensive program. Sites built in Flash take more planning and
programming time than “standard” HTML sites.

Flash and Your Website Homepage

Flash can be a nice feature in your custom business
website if used properly and not over use it. Some use a flash intro
which will allow you to skip but some can be a nuisance when you're in
a hurry trying to find that right website that you are looking for and
you're stuck at a three minute intro. Not to mention, the time it can
take just for a flash intro on your homepage to load. So now, not only,
have you made your potential customer wait for your flash movie to
load, you have made them sit through a long flash presentation. In the
end you can make a lot of customers very unhappy and they won't want to
come back to your website.

As you can tell this is not so
friendly to your users nor does it help your business prosper. The best
thing to do is allow someone to skip a flash intro. Try using a window
of flash or use flash in your header instead of a whole page. This is
more search engine friendly and your potential clients will appreciate
you more.

Make your flash in your website as friendly as possible.

Flash in Your Website

Automatically Running a Script From Within a Web Page

It's very simple to run a script (for example, a CGI script) by clicking a button in a form:

(Note that in the code snippets in this article, square brackets are used instead of angle brackets.)

[form name="form1" method="post" action="/cgi-bin/updatePage.cgi"]

:

:

[/form]

Sometimes,
however, you might need to run a script automatically from within an
HTML page, without requiring the user to perform an action. You might
want to do this if, for example, you have one or more variables that
have been generated perhaps by another script, which you need to
process without user interaction.

If you insert the following
code into an HTML page, the script (in our case, updatePage.cgi) will
be automatically executed when the web page is loaded into a browser.

[img src="/cgi-bin/updatePage.cgi" height="1" width="1"]

In order to ensure that a broken link is not generated by the cgi script itself, include the following code in the script.

print "Content-type: image/gif";

open IN, 'image.gif' or die "Cannot open: $!";

binmode IN;

print while ;

close IN;

There also needs to be an image called image.gif in the same directory (cgi-bin) as the cgi script.

I
often use this technique automatically perform certain text processing
activities in my content management systems. For example, I might have
one or more ASCII files that need to be automatically updated at the
end of an operation, but I don't want to force the user to click, for
example, an update button.

Flash SEO Techniques

Currently, most flash content cannot be seen by
search engines (and when it is seen, is seen to only a limited extent).
This is because the search engine robots see a file within the overall
page source code and cannot see the structure of the navigation within
it. It may be able to dig some text content out of it, but for the most
part, even the text content is read as just graphics, and cannot be
indexed.

The best way to create a search engine friendly version
of
your flash content (and to still show the content) is to use SiFR,
or Scalable Inman Flash Replacement. This is preferred to standard
noscript tags and redirects, plus the usage of this has been approved
by Google on their blog.

How SiFR works with Flash -

First
of all, lets assume you've embedded flash within the overall page, as
opposed to just making one big flash page first of all. Otherwise you
may have to revisit the step of integrating flash into html first.
Otherwise when a standard html page that happens to contain flash is
reached, a JavaScript function is run which first checks that Flash is
there, looking for whatever tags you have designated for it.

If
the user does not have flash installed, or if JavaScript is turned off
(the latter being the case with search engine spiders) the HTML page
displays as normal (without the flash content) and nothing further
occurs. If Flash is installed, and JavaScript turned off however, the
browser views the source code of your page looking for SiFR elements.
After this, the script creates Flash movies of the same dimensions and
displays them on top of the original location. This can be tested in
Mozilla Firefox via the use of an addon.
