Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon faced off on Thursday's "The Colbert Report" in a mock feud over their respective Ben & Jerry's flavors. The ice-cream maker years ago named "Americone Dream" for Colbert, while earlier this week "Late Night Snack" was unveiled for Fallon, host of "Late Night" on NBC.

The two traded insults, with Fallon claiming Americone Dream was merely a "palate cleanser for 'Toss.0.'" Colbert said "Late Night Snack" was "pretty good — for 12:30" and compared it to a Fallon "Saturday Night Live" sketch: "Halfway through, you break down laughing and you can't finish it."

The two sought backup, yelling "Lead-ins assemble!" Jay Leno didn't show, but Jon Stewart did. Armed with a bat, the trio of late-night hosts resembled a similar throw-down among Colbert, Stewart and Conan O'Brien during the 2007-2008 writers strike.

Colbert and Fallon attempted an ice cream eating contest. But when brain freeze set in, they instead settled for a sing-along.

China paper blasts Middle East protest movements

Such movements have brought nothing but chaos and misery to their countries' citizens and are engineered by a small number of people using the Internet to organize illegal meetings, the Beijing Daily, published by the city's party committee, said in a front-page editorial.

"The vast majority of the people are strongly dissatisfied (with the protests), so the performance by the minority becomes a self-delusional ruckus," the newspaper said.

The editorial appeared amid anonymous calls posted on the Internet for Middle East-inspired protests in dozens of Chinese cities the past two Sunday afternoons.

While drawing few outright demonstrators, the appeals have deeply unnerved authorities constantly on guard for any sign of challenges to Communist rule. Police and security agents shooed away onlookers and assaulted and detained journalists who turned up at the designated protest sites in Beijing and Shanghai.

Foreign reporters have been repeatedly warned to stay away from the sites this weekend and threatened with unspecified consequences if they disobey.

China's censors have carefully shaped local coverage of the protests in the Middle East to discourage Chinese citizens from drawing inspiration from them. State media emphasize the protests' negative effects on the societies and economies of the countries involved and give prominent coverage to the woes of Chinese workers evacuated from Libya and elsewhere.

In its editorial, the Beijing Daily attempted to draw a sharp distinction between China and the Middle Eastern countries roiled by unrest, where disdain for long-serving autocratic rulers has frequently been fueled by high unemployment and economic woes.

Chinese people, it said, support their nation's political stability, economic development, and favorable government policies. Those looking to create or discover news of Middle East-style protests in China will come up empty, it said.

"However, we must clearly recognize that there are always people inside and outside the country with ulterior motives who want to seize on the problems we have encountered over the course of development in order to incite unrest," the newspaper said.

Boston SP Beckett throws simulated game

Beckett missed his scheduled start on Thursday. He experienced mild concussion symptoms after being hit in the left temple on Monday by an errant ball while shagging flies in the outfield during batting practice.

Beckett is expected to make his next start on Tuesday. The Red Sox have split-squad games that day against the Astros at home and in Jupiter, Fla., against the Cardinals.

Beckett faced six Red Sox minor leaguers, throwing a mix of all his pitches.

"I felt good," he said. "It's a (simulated) game. There's just not a lot of adrenaline and stuff that goes into that. But I like it when the guys go up there and swing. (It) gives you a little bit of feedback one way or the other. It's hard to get a lot of feedback if the guys don't swing, just not a lot of things that correlate to a game unless you have a little bit of something going on."

Beckett said although he has not lifted weights since the incident, he feels that his overall condition and arm strength are where they need to be. The work he's been able to get in has allowed him to continue his regular progression.

"Yeah, I think I'm right there," he said. "I wouldn't have thrown that many pitches. I probably would have thrown less than that, in fact, unless I would have ran into a long inning and even then, they wouldn't have let me go over so many pitches in one inning.

"As far as workload, yes. As far as the other things that go into actually pitching in a spring training game, (those) are a little bit different, whether it be routine or stuff like that."

Beckett said he is still feeling the effects of being hit.

"I'm actually good," he said. "(But) I'm really sore on the left side of my head. My jaw and stuff like that are pretty sore. But I think I'm pretty much back to normal."

He didn't notice the concussion symptoms until the day after the incident.

"I don't think initially I was that scared," he said. "It actually took when I went to lunch (the next day) and I couldn't do it. I couldn't be away from my house without laying down. And that's when I finally said, 'Hey, there's something wrong here.' Because I was kind of resistant to even thinking I had a concussion.

"I tried to come in the next day. I was like 'Oh, I'm ready to go back to work. Let's get this over with.' And I found out that day when I went to lunch. It was a little bit of a setback."

Beckett is coming off a disappointing 6-6 season in which he had a 5.78 ERA with 45 walks.

Neither move was a surprise. Carter was a poor fit for the team's 3-4 defense, and Dockery had become a bench-sitter who was due $3.8 million in salary in 2011.

The cuts came a day after the Redskins cut running back Clinton Portis rather than pay him $8.3 million next season. It wasn't that long ago that Portis, Carter and Dockery were premium-paid, reliable members of the starting lineup, but all will be at least 30 by the start of the next season and have no place in coach Mike Shanahan's plans.

Carter had 11 sacks in 2009 playing defensive end in the 4-3, but he struggled when moved to linebacker last season in the 3-4. He started only five games and had 2½ sacks, symbolic of the argument that the Redskins switched the scheme before they had the personnel in place to make it work.

Dockery hadn't missed a game in his eight-year career, playing in 116 straight in the regular season, before he was made inactive in Week 5, having struggled to adapt to Shanahan's zone blocking scheme on offense. Dockery, whose starting job was taken by Kory Lichtensteiger, played in only one more game the rest of the season.

Dockery was drafted by the Redskins in the third round in 2003 and hit the big-money free agent jackpot twice in a short amount of time. He left in 2007 to sign a blockbuster $49 million deal with Buffalo but was cut after two seasons. He then returned to Washington to sign a five-year $26.5 million contract with $8.2 million guaranteed in 2009.

The Redskins also made a second-round tender to restricted free agent linebacker Chris Wilson. The tender is subject to whatever free agent rules are included when the NFL and the players' union reach a new collective bargaining agreement.

Blogging - How to Make Sense Out of WordPress Options

When I first started out and was taking a tutorial on setting up online marketing, the subject of blogs came up. It was suggested that a blog was a very good tool for marketing and making yourself known on the WEB. The program suggested starting with WordPress. I had never heard of WordPress so I went to the WordPress site to find out what it was all about.

This was all new to me so I followed instructions on the site and presto...I had my first blog set up in a few minutes. It wasn't pretty and I had no idea what I was doing. The interface was new, the tabs were a mystery and the general functions available were a guessing game for me. That said, I forged ahead, wrote a post and then tried out different tabs and selections to see what would happen.

What I didn't realize was that there are three varieties of WordPress, and you should know that upfront, so you can decide what works best for you. I learned of these 3 options later when I used another tutorial and set up another WordPress blog on a host site.

So what are those three options?

Option One

The first one I'll mention is one that doesn't concern the individual affiliate marketer but you should be aware of it. It's called WordPress MU. MU stands for Multi-User and it allows you to run several hundreds to thousands of blogs on one domain. It really applies to corporations, groups, organizations or maybe super affiliate marketers that have their own servers and run a network of blogs. Until you reach that scale you needn't know more than that about WordPress MU.

Option Two

The next option open to you is WordPress.com. This is the one I first used. It is hosted on WordPress servers and offers an easy to use template you can follow to start your first blog. You can choose your own user name to individualize your blog and it will get assigned to the WordPress domain. For example, if you choose to go with your name to set up the blog, your domain would look like http://www.yourname.WordPress.com. This assumes your choice was available.

Another point to remember is that on WordPress.com you are subject to the guidelines of your host. That means that commercial applications such as Google Adsense and other plug ins used to create revenue streams or optimize for search engine discovery, are not available. The blogs are really designed for open and useful communication without the volume of commercial and affiliate selling that takes place on other blog environments. This isn't to say that you cannot create links to affiliate programs and place some banners, but the WordPress.com blog is not the most optimum environment to run a marketing based business. The next option is best suited for that purpose.

Option Three

The third option is the one used by most affiliate marketers who set up their business on an independent hosted environment outside of the WordPress hosted site. It's called WordPress.Org and is software that is downloaded to your own Web server to run on your domain. It is often accessed through the Control Panel of the Web host you have selected to use in your business or blog. Some free hosting services may not offer the Control Panel feature so you have to follow what ever process they use for downloading blog software.

In the case of WordPress.org, the software offers greater flexibility that WordPress.com and allows you to download plugins that are not available to WordPress hosted blogs. For example, you can download Google AdSense ads mentioned earlier or Google Sitemap which allows search engines to find and index you more efficiently so you can place better in search results. You can place html code to more effectively design web pages for commercial application in affiliate marketing campaigns. In short, it offers more options and better capabilities for running a business than WordPress.com. It is the option that you will come to by default when setting up a blog from your host site. You will notice a different set of options such as a plug-in add on feature that is not available with WordPress.com. In summary, this is the option you will find most suitable for affiliate marketing. It gives you more ways to create revenue streams for a business.

Conclusion

Depending on your objectives for blogging, these are the three options you can select from when considering WordPress. There is plenty of documentation to help you with the details of how to use the features and tools offered in each option. The point here is to make sure you are aware of what is available so you can make an intelligent decision.

listen. When it comes to affiliate marketing, there are some things that
affiliates do that are a sure ticket to failure. And yet, they do them
anyway. It just boggles my mind. Well, if you don't want to end up as an
affiliate failure, you'll take my advice and avoid these things like the
plague.

At the very top of my list is the choice of the product itself. So many
affiliates jump on the "me too" product of the day and think that
because everybody is talking about the product that it's going to make
them a ton of money. What they don't understand is that these high
profile, high end products, are being promoted by every top marketer in
existence. Do you REALLY think that as a beginning marketer you have a
chance against these people? You certainly don't, especially if you make
any of the other mistakes on this list. However, to give yourself more
of a chance, don't jump on the product du jour.

Next on the list is ads. I marvel at some of the ads I see for these
products. Why do I marvel? Because they're all the same. The only thing
different is the affiliate link in them. Oh come on, you know it's true.
You write to the merchant, ask him to send you some ads, he gives you a
link to get your "affiliate tools" and you copy and paste the same ads
that everybody else is sending, changing nothing but the link. Yeah,
that's really going to make you stand out and get your share of the
sales...not. So for crying out loud, write your own ads.

Finally, there's the means of promotion that affiliates use. They either
use the most expensive forms, such as pay per click, where to get a
decent position you have to spend a buck or more per click, or they use
forms of promotion that aren't worth squat. Look, if you're trying to
fight the pay per click wars in highly competitive niches, you're dead.
The heavy hitters will eat you alive. And using poor sources of
advertising is a total waste of time altogether. There are great sources
of advertising and great advertising methods that won't cost you an arm
and a leg. You'll find some great info in my signature.

If you avoid these common affiliate mistakes, you can easily become a
successful affiliate marketer for almost any product at all.

finding drivers for their laptops. In this article, I will illustrate
two ways to help you find your laptop drivers quickly, and easily.

The
first method we will consider is to visit a company's website, and
attempt to find a 'Drivers' or 'downloads' link. If a similar link is
not immediately apparent, look for a search box. Most laptop companies
have a search box somewhere on the homepage of their website. Type the
model number of your laptop into the search box and click search.
Typically, you will be sent to an overview of the model you have
entered. Look for 'Downloads' or 'Drivers' links. Hopefully, if this
link is available, you can follow it to find the necessary drivers for
your laptop.

For example, say you have a Dell Latitude D600
laptop, for which you wish to locate updated drivers. The first step is
to visit Dell's website. From the first page, click on the 'Drivers and
Downloads' section.

After clicking on the 'Drivers and Downloads'
link, we choose the required model. In our example, it is Latitude.
Then we enter the model number (D600), followed by selecting our
operating system. The Dell website will show a list of available
drivers and software updates for your model. Select the driver you
wish, and click 'Download'. What if you do not know the website of your
laptop's manufacturer? Or, perhaps when visiting the website, you
couldn't find the 'Downloads and Drivers' section? A second method for
locating laptop drivers would be to visit Google (www.google.com), and
entering, "Download (manufacturer) (model name and number) [type]
driver" or "[type] driver for (manufacturer) (model name or number)"
into the query box, substituting your own manufacturer, model name and

For example, if we wished to find the sound card for a

Currently, most flash content cannot be seen by
search engines (and when it is seen, is seen to only a limited extent).
This is because the search engine robots see a file within the overall
page source code and cannot see the structure of the navigation within
it. It may be able to dig some text content out of it, but for the most
part, even the text content is read as just graphics, and cannot be
indexed.

The best way to create a search engine friendly version
of your flash content (and to still show the content) is to use SiFR,
or Scalable Inman Flash Replacement. This is preferred to standard
noscript tags and redirects, plus the usage of this has been approved
by Google on their blog.

How SiFR works with Flash -

First
of all, lets assume you've embedded flash within the overall page, as
opposed to just making one big flash page first of all. Otherwise you
may have to revisit the step of integrating flash into html first.
Otherwise when a standard html page that happens to contain flash is
reached, a JavaScript function is run which first checks that Flash is
there, looking for whatever tags you have designated for it.

If
the user does not have flash installed, or if JavaScript is turned off
(the latter being the case with search engine spiders) the HTML page
displays as normal (without the flash content) and nothing further
occurs. If Flash is installed, and JavaScript turned off however, the
browser views the source code of your page looking for SiFR elements.
After this, the script creates Flash movies of the same dimensions and
displays them on top of the original location. This can be tested in
Mozilla Firefox via the use of an addon.
